What is the difference between an HDD and an SSD drive?

Traditional hard disks (HDD) store information on spinning platters, which is retrieved by read/write arms. These platters spin at 7200 times every minute!

Solid State Drives (SSD) store information on interconnected flash-memory chips, making an SSD drive around 10 x faster than an HDD! They are quieter, more durable, smaller and consume less energy

Why has my Laptop or PC slowed down?

Here are some reasons why your laptop or PC slows down with time:

Some installed software may be being started with Windows and is constantly running in the background all the time your computer is on
Your hard drive will degrade after a number of years and will not be able to retrieve your data as efficiently (remember, all the time your computer is on, your disk is spinning 7,200 times every minute!)
During Windows use, it is creating temporary files all the time and if these are not deleted, they will clutter up your hard disk
Windows Updates don't always install correctly and may be confusing the operating system with conflicting information

Having said that, we will always endeavour to copy the contents of documents folder, pictures folder etc to the new installation, so it behaves as closely to the old hard disk as possible

What about my Office and other software I use?

We will also help the customer by re-installing standard software such as Office, Internet Security etc providing the customer has disks or download information for the particular software. However, the time spent doing this will be time-limited to 30 minutes. We are happy to help with more demanding software installations, but this work will be incur extra charges

How long will it take to install a new SSD and install Windows?

The installation of the new SSD drive and re-installation of Windows normally takes 24 hours from delivery of the laptop or PC. Occasionally, a complication with the laptop or PC may delay that, but we always try to resolve any issues as soon as possible
